The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for the nursing team and quality of patient service in the absence of the Director of Nursing. The ADON supervises, analyzes, delegates, and evaluates nursing activities and ensures patient comfort and care. Complies with federal, state and local standards for facility operation. Incorporates the Generation’s mission, vision, and values in the daily work and interactions with others.



Duties include but are not limited to the following:


  • Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice for the Skilled Nursing Department.
  • Helps to hire, train, teach, and monitor clinical staff.
  • Prepares the clinical schedule for the department
  • Ensuring nursing staff follows departmental procedures and policies
  • Assesses the quality of care rendered.
  • Ensures the patient and employee records are updated and accurate
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services under his or her supervision.
  • Verifies employee credentials under his or her position supervision.
  • Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
  • Assists with the evaluation of the quality and cost-effectiveness of staffing and services within the goals of the community.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the community with professional nursing and related organizations in the absence of the DON.
  • Participates in meetings and committees.
  • Attend staff and resident meetings as requested to report and advise on all skilled nursing service matters.
  • Reviews the physical environment of the facility on a regular basis and directs requests for repair and replacement when necessary.
  • All other duties as assigned.





Education/Work Experience: 


  • Registered Nurse with a current state license.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience in a skilled nursing environment.



Needs to be self-directed and possess the ability to make decisions. Is accountable for department performance. Works closely with the Director of Nursing, Executive Director, and other department heads.


Working Conditions:

Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated offices and kitchen environment. Maybe exposed to high temperatures. Deals with the public, personnel, visitors, family members and residents under all circumstances.
